Our shelter is set up to provide immediate safety of individuals affected by alcohol and other drug dependencies through outreach, assessment, referrals and community partnership.
How to Access
A person who is under the influence can present to 203 15 Ave SE at any time depending on capacity.
We work towards stabilization of individuals depending on their social circumstances that impact their mental health and social well-being. Our shelter has 120 mats and we are a 24 hour, seven days a week program. Clients are welcome at any time of the day or night. In addition to self-referrals and our DOAP Team, we receive daily referrals from other addiction services, police, emergency medical services, city transit, hospitals and other agencies. To use the shelter you need to be under the influence of a substance or have an addiction issue. We deliver our services from a Harm Reduction and Social Model that respects the client’s right to self-determination as we address the impact of homelessness and addiction in their lives.
We strive to develop relationships of trust with our clients so that we can provide a safe and caring environment.
While clients are in shelter we are able to provide them with sandwiches and soup, showers and laundry. We have a medical clinic in partnership with CUPS to provide medical care five days a week with two alternating nurses and a doctor who come three half days a week. We also have Safeworks (Alberta Health Services) staff who meet with clients once a week to provide testing, results and naloxone training. Our shelter is set-up to provide immediate safety of individuals affected by alcohol and other drug dependencies through outreach, assessment, referrals and community partnership. Our staff also provide supports such as: addiction counselling, basic medical needs, treatment referrals, fast tracking for prescriptions, medical and housing needs. We also provide an ID clinic and foot clinic weekly that clients can sign up for.
In The Community
Our outside staff work around the perimeter of our building and with our direct neighbours to provide the quickest response to community concerns and monitoring of client care. We also provide community rounds every hour around the blocks of 15th and 17th Avenues giving us the opportunity to help clients into Alpha House, move clients along off property and clean the areas as best as we can.
