If you’ve been thinking about giving back to the community and would like to get involved with our Volunteer Program, please email our Volunteer Team at info@alphahousecalgary.com We have a variety of opportunities available for individual volunteers looking to get involved, and for corporate and group volunteers looking to make an impact as a team.


Corporate & Group Volunteer Opportunities

Sandwiches & Kits

We offer on-site group volunteer opportunities for up to 15 people, where you’ll either make sandwiches or put together kits, depending on current and seasonal needs.

     $100 – $250 depending on group size

Kits for a Cause

If you have a group of 15 or more people, consider making a difference through our Alpha House Kits for a Cause Care Kit Program.

Soup Sisters

If you’re looking for another opportunity off-site, check out our partners over at Soup Sisters, and book a hands-on soup-making event led by a chef at Sunterra.


Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Shelter Helper

As a volunteer Shelter Helper, you will assist Shelter staff in providing basic needs supplies and material support for clients accessing Alpha House’s Emergency Shelter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with clients in small groups or 1:1, through the concession stand on the Shelter floor
  • Provide basic needs supplies to clients who come to the stand asking for supplies
  • Assist with washing, drying, and sorting shelter laundry
  • Make trips to the laundry room for additional supplies/specific items as needed.

Detox Helper

The Detox Helper role works with clients in the Detox program to encourage engagement in programming and hands-on activities, and supports them to feel included and heard. Additional duties include helping staff with operational activities like laundry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with clients in small groups or 1:1, through activities and programming, listening to their stories, and facilitating non-judgmental conversation as appropriate
  • Seek out clients who may be isolating and encourage their participation in activities
  • Treat clients with respect and dignity, interacting with them in a caring, respectful manner

Kitchen Volunteer

A volunteer in the kitchen works with our staff and chefs to assist in the preparation and serving of nutritious meals to our Detox and Shelter clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage clients with respect and dignity, interacting with them in a caring, non-judgmental manner
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of meals
  • Set up and clean up the dining room
  • Assist in monitoring clients’ safety and well-being, call for support when needed
